VisCom Center Launches the Ford Focus Project
September 25th, 2007
The Center for Visual Communication at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) will participate in a first-of-its-kind competition with regional private and public universities, including CSU Long Beach, Art Center College of Design and Chapman University, to create 30-second commercials for Southern California Ford Dealers. The creative project was conceived and directed by Daily and Associates Advertising of West Hollywood, which approached notable colleges to develop the TV spots for the launch of the highly anticipated redesigned Ford Focus.
Creating commercials will require many talented individuals, drawing students from all areas within the CSUN campus. Managing the development of these commercials will be Professor Dave Moon and Creative Director Joe Bautista, along with the Center’s “core members” made up of senior motion and graphics students from the university.
Already, many preparations have been made for the competition, such as meeting with notable alumni from the university for a pre-project brainstorming session, compiling market research and developing initial concepts. The Center for Visual Communication will continue to work throughout this semester and well into next semester to come up with the best possible commercials.
To kick off the project, the Ford Motor Company is giving a $2,500 scholarship fund to the Center and a brand-new 2008 Ford Focus (worth apx. $25,000) to the university, regardless of the competition’s outcome.
The final commercials will be submitted on April 1, 2008, to Dailey and Associates Advertising and the winning ads will run during late spring 2008 on local and regional stations. The public is welcome to visit the Center to see the preliminary work during normal business hours.
